$10,000 to be Awarded to Local Area Schools

Earning for Learning turns money spent at Lloyd Center into cash prizes for local schools

Portland, Oregon (August 8, 2008) – Lloyd Center officials announced today that for the fourth year in a row, the mall will award $10,000 to local area schools this fall.  Lloyd Center drives its commitment to children’s education through Earning for Learning, formerly known as Tools for Your School, a partnership program designed to promote and support education in local school districts.  Earning for Learning encourages local residents to shop at Lloyd Center over a 10-week promotional period to earn “points,” and ultimately the chance to win cash prizes, for the school of their choice.

“Lloyd Center is committed to supporting education in our local districts,” says Ann Grimmer, Lloyd Center Marketing Director. “The program was devised as a way for Lloyd Center to help bridge the gap of budget cuts for schools by providing monetary support.”

Now through October 31st, each dollar that customers spend can be turned into points for the school of their choice.  Mondays and Tuesdays are identified as “Double-Point Days” and receipts from those select days earn the school double points.  Shoppers simply redeem their receipts for points at the Customer Service Center in the mall and designate their points to the school of their choice.  

Lloyd Center will keep a tally board updated weekly at the mall with a running total of each school’s points. . At the end of the contest, the top 10 schools will be awarded cash prizes ranging from $150 to $4,000. Shoppers have until October 31st, 2007 to turn in their receipts at Lloyd Center.

At the end of the contest, winning schools will be invited to a ceremony where they will receive their prizes. The winning schools will be notified by November 7^th, 2008.

Last year, over 300,000 points were totaled for the Portland area schools.  Buckman Elementary, last year’s grand prize winner, was awarded $4,000.   

Every school in the Portland area is eligible to participate in the contest and is not required to sign-up.  Lloyd Center encourages residents to show their school spirit by participating in the Earning for Learning program and turn their shopping dollars into money for local schools.
